Blip or I'll miss it

Smoke inside the hospital doors

Desperately trying to get a permanent job since moving up north, so as part of joining the staff bank (in the hope that I might be able to apply for an internal applicant only advertised post for the band that I have specialised to), I had induction fire training today. I have used fire extinguishers and the likes plenty of times before in previous training sessions, however have never quite like had a session like this one before.

We were asked to 'rescue' a selection of our group from a smoke filled hospital ward- beds, lockers, chairs, monitors and curtains and all- in pitch darkness and afterwards got to play the role of helpless patient stuck in the dark. They use the same stuff as you see on tv shows but it was really dense and they add the odour of burning paper and wood to the 'smoke' to make it more authentic.

The thing that struck me most was the disorientation and lack of fresh air as well as the rush of knowing you had to save people. All I hope that I never ever have to act this out in real life
