School Outing
Across on the MV Graemsay and joined by 53 primary school bairns from Stromness School. This was a great day out for them and their excitement was palpable. When we left the harbour we went past the Hamnavoe (arriving from Scotland). The Graemsay had to pass through the Hamnavoe's wake - it was a bit bumpy and caused great hilarity. The bairns stayed mainly in the cabin, sadly a few had to go out on deck, with the teachers, if they needed fresh air - one or two looked a bit green about the gills. The kids however coped well.
The children didn't get off at Hoy - no they were in for the long-haul journey around to the Graemsay pier. They planned to spend their time at Sandside Beach - a great little coral beach. They had buckets and spades -a few teddy bears were also present.
I avoided most of the maelstrom by dining at the Captain's table.
On the way off at Hoy Pier I spoke to Davy, the Skipper, and he said he thought that the behaviour of the bairns was far better than the behaviour of the teachers.
