‘Historical Monument’

These four rather unsightly holes are all that remain where railings once stood. The railings were removed, along with iron railings throughout the country, to be melted down and turned into munitions at the beginning of World War II.

There is some scepticism, however, about the extent to which this alleged purpose was fulfilled.
