THE DAY AFTER

We had been told that Hubby would likely be discharged about lunch time today.

So after a light breakfast and very little sleep, the hotel kindly said I could leave the car there and get a taxi to the hospital. Which worked out cheaper than parking there but would also save panicking about a space.

I got there about lunch time,  phoned hubby who said everyone else in the ward (only him and 3 others) had seen their Doctors,  but his hadn't arrived yet.  They weren't being discharged yet.

The hospital was like a different world, not many people, many services not open and space for parking !!!!  Apparently though this was unusual for a Saturday.

So I went back into Booths for coffee.  Then went to his ward to wait outside.  It turned out that they don't bother with sticking to visiting times at the weekend.  So I went to visit him.  Still no Doctor.  They eventually turned up about 2.30 pm.  We then waited for another 4 hours before he could be discharged.  This was partly waiting for his newly prescribed meds, which was only Aspirin!!!

The Pharmacy at the hospital wasn't open so they had to wait for someone to get them!!!  Also at the Hospital they have a lovely Discharge Lounge for patients to wait in comfort, but NOT AT THE WEEKEND.  Talk about feeling like second class citizens.

Anyway he eventually got discharged about 6.30 pm.  So then back to the hotel to pick up the car and drive home.  We also decided to stay another night because I was way over tired for driving, but some food and the fresh air had revived me a little so we headed home, which is where we wanted to be.

Went to bed before 9.00 pm absolutely whacked.

Still back home and it's all over now, just got to take time for him to recover.

Overall each individual NHS staff member we saw, across all levels, were OUTSTANDING, but they do need to review their practices and join things together a  bit more.  We had so much conflicting and different information hurled at us which didn't help the stress.
