Ok...the Gang's All Here
This time of year small groups of visiting Black Vultures are often spotted soaring, eating, roosting and squabbling with the Turkey Vultures. Although they resemble the TVs, they are stockier, have shorter tails, broader wings and larger heads than their vulture cousins. In flight a whitish patch at each wingtip can easily be seen. And not to get too specific but... when soaring they will often flap their wings several times, I guess to gain altitude. Turkey Vultures just glide with the air currents. Ok, maybe TMI. Do take a look at the *extra...two more Black Vultures relaxing on a neighbor's roof. And a side-by-side comparison of a Turkey Vulture and a Black Vulture.
