Walking Toward Lackamas Lake, Washington

Somehow suburban sprawl spared this lake,
Gouged to bedrock in the Missoula flood,
dammed to power a lumber mill, donated
to the town for recreation, it is there for us to enjoy. 
Though a subdivison of pricey homes may each own their view, they cannot preempt access.  And so we can walk next to the water and follow the kingfisher as it screams its right to hunt and fish,
from time immemorial.
