Islip
After a stop for lunch just off J12 of the M6 I was ready for a stop and stretch of my legs part way down the A34.
I had never heard of Islip and had hoped it would have a cafe but the best it could offer was two pubs both of which were closed. However it made for an interesting stop.It was the birthplace of Edward The Confessor in 1042 and the church dates from the thirteenth century. The bridge was vital to the defence of Oxford during the Civil War and changed hands several times. It was taken at the Battle of Islip Bridge by Cromwells New Model Army 23 April 1645.
The church is an interesting visit and still had a nativity scene on display which is the blip. The extra is some interesting if ugly interior glass doors.
Arrived at Wendys early afternoon.Always nice to see Wendy.
