The Eye of God

This is what it was like all day: dark vs light, wet vs dry, grey vs sunny. It rained like a son of a gun last night, and there was various flooding around the neighborhood. The city sent the pump trucks out this morning to clear some of the drains and culverts, so things could get moving in the right direction. So much debris, and so much of it ended up in our backyard: mud and sticks and leaves and who knows what washed through the garden and left sticky piles wherever it got blocked. Our laundry room is full of mud and water that came in under the thin space between the door and the sidewalk. The neighbor’s daughter stood in ankle deep water when she got out of bed—her place is a converted garage that’s right in the flow pattern. So there’s a mess, and a lot of work to be done to prevent future damage, but no one is hurt, or hungry or cold or in danger. The ever-resourceful Treekeeper came and propped up the fence so it won’t keel over before a more permanent solution is reached; he can do a job like that before I’ve even thought it through, and he is much appreciated.
