Yes this is an emergency blip. Yet another quiet evening in! This is the 2023 wine from the cooperative, newly released -- it's very good. I am eking out Hilary Mantel a bit at a time. She has a particular skill for writing about the ritual aspects of royalty, but I'm now reading her 2017 Reith lectures. I listened to them at the time, and I'm enjoying being able to pause and reflect on them a second time. Shame the Q and As weren't included because they were fascinating too -- the grace and erudition with which she responded to questions were impressive.

I also watched the first episode of Judith Godrèche's new series An Icon of french Cinema, in which she effectively plays herself -- alerted to it by an article in the Guardian. Does it signal progress on the #MeToo front? Doesn't seem that likely, given the respect still paid to Gérard Depardieu by no less than the president.

It was another sunny but cold day .. on this day last year we were all excited by snow, but that's definitely not happening this year.
