DAY TWELVE (Sydney)
Today we were up and out early for the farmer's market, which was excellent. Lots of fruit and veges and ripe figs, Irish soda bread and... plump little corn fritters, which we are going to have for tea.
Then the two keen gym goers went off to the local gym, while I made myself useful by hanging up the washing. Gill has a very good trick for getting lots on to a small space - use hangars for teeshirts etc.
After breakfast, after the gym, JR and I set off for a ferry ride to Watson's Bay, first in to Circular Quay, change ferries, then a ten minute ride through masses of tiny wee yachts (must have been a race). Round a few bays with some many millions $$$$ houses with incredible views. Watson's Bay is great, with a wee sandy beach, and it's the start of many coastal walks, which we've done before (in fitter days). A shared plate of excellent fish and chips, a wander along the beach, and back on the next ferry.
Going home we took Gill's advice and arrived at a different Balmain wharf - right at the bottom of the very very long Darling Street. And there was our bus waiting to take us up the hill! Brilliant.
The farmers' market corn fritters for tea, then out to the theatre! Gill really is spoiling us with lots of different activities. It was a very good play, with lots of references to local custom and places that we didn't get. and I really wish I had remembered to bring my new specs, because I missed out on facial expressions.
Another super end to a more relaxed (9,935 steps) but eventful day.
The huge gum trees are spectacular, but they wreck the pavements. The dog was lying in his hallway, head stuck out under the safety gate. There are loads of dogs around here, but not allowed into cafes, which is great for non dog owners, as there are always seats inside.
