Tauranga Bay and Wall Island

Today's choice of blip was a hard one - so I've uploaded a couple of other choices onto my Flickr account.

Last week I heard that The Bay House Café (Tauranga Bay, Westport) was definitely closing this weekend for the winter so I decided that I was going to go over there for lunch on Saturday. Then I realised that our Murchison kids (and men) were playing rugby at home this weekend so thought I'd best stay for that and go to Westport on Sunday instead.

Of course the weather was so bad yesterday, and the grounds all so boggy, that all the region's school rugby was cancelled. Oh well, a day spent at work and home was nice anyway.

So this morning off I headed to the West Coast. For some time now I've wanted to walk the Headland track from the lighthouse at Cape Foulwind to Tauranga Bay but it's always been a bit of a logistical issue vehicle wise. Today friends, who have recently moved to Charleston, came up to meet me there and we swapped cars - with me heading to the Cape and them to the Bay - then we walked towards each other and swapped keys in the middle of the track. Lovely walk, lots of ups and downs but nothing too strenuous and only 90 minutes.

We met up again at the Bay House for a great lunch, then headed off in our own directions. Because I was close to Westport it seemed like a great idea to duck into the supermarket for some groceries on my way home.

While I was there, sitting in my car having a chat to my lovely grandson Sebastian (who has just learnt to use the phone!) who should I spot but Farmergirl and Farmerboy. I guess they'd decided on a day out too.

In large you can see the bird prints in the foreground - they beat me to the beach.
