The People's Assembly Against Austerity
About 3,000 people gathered in and around Central Hall in Westminster - slap bang opposite the Houses of Parliament - today for discussion and debate on what action we, as citizens of the UK, can take to turn the tide on austerity.
Speakers included representatives from Trade Unions, from campaigning organisations, from direct action groups such as UK Uncut, Occupy, from public services, from lobbying organisations and there was also the opportunity for speakers from the floor to speak in the breakout sessions.
There really was too much that went on for me to write about here as I'm nackered and I have a photo shoot to do tomorrow starting at 11.30am but if you google Peoples Assembly London you should reach their website.
This isn't the 'best' photo from the day but it certainly confirms that the range of attendees was pretty broad. Young people, elders, black, white, people from faith groups, able bodied people and disabled people. Those descriptions covered the range of speakers too.
The one quote that I can remember above all, though, is this one and I can't remember which platform speaker said it, unfortunately:
"To Cameron, Clegg and Milliband*: if you continue to govern this country in this way, we will make this country ungovernable".
*leaders of the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour parties
