Kittiwakes.

Kittiwakes have always had breeding grounds on the River Tyne. There was a large colony of them nesting at the Baltic Flour Mill, but when it was made into an art gallery a new site was made for them further down the river. This is used by many birds, but a lot of them prefer to be further inland and nest on the Tyne Bridge, where they seem to have occupied all the available ledges. The young seem to be in constant danger of falling over the edge. This is the furthest inland breeding colony of Kittiwakes in the country.
