The Post Office

Our local shop and post office, run by Mr Dhillon and his family. It’s a utilitarian building, but serves its purpose well. I walk here for the daily newspaper, occasional top ups of items, and a couple of times a week Mrs Dhillon’s excellent home made samosas for lunch.

The Post Office Ltd has been embroiled in a major scandal for years, but it has taken a four part TV drama shown over Christmas - Mr Bates versus the Post Office - to bring the injustice suffered by so many falsely accused sub- post- masters to the attention of a wider public, and to wide public outrage which has forced the government to intervene and do something. It just shows the power of good TV drama and a story well told. It is apparently the most watched TV show shown over Christmas in the UK, which is amazing. We haven’t watched it, our focus in the evenings tends to be on “feel good” TV. I wonder what Mr and Mrs Dhillon make of it all.
