Court Colman

This house is steeped in history. There may have been a building on or near the present site, when the land was owned by the monks of Margam Abbey.
In 1837 the building was bought by retired naval surgeon and medical practitioner, William Llewelyn. He died three years later and his widow survived until 1848.
The house was inherited by William Llewelyn 11, who lived there until his death in 1898. The property then passed to his son Robert Llewelyn in 1906 following the death of his mother.
The family fortunes were prospering at this time , due to the royalties from the steam coal produced from the Llewelyn land in the Rhondda. Money was plentiful and Robert added refinements to Court Colman that turned it into a top class gentlemen's residence. He died in 1910 and the property was inherited by his son William H.C. Llewelyn. He sold the building in 1961.
Court Colman Manor has been a hotel since 1981, and was revitalised under the guidance of the late Vijay Bhagatra, to become one of the most attractive and luxurious hotels in South Wales.
