Athletics and Winners

It's the European Athletics Team Championships at Gateshead International Stadium this weekend. We are there! Two highlights from today are the incredible Mo Farah of 'Mobot' fame. He took off like a rocket in the 5000m last lap. Different class! We were right by the Women's pole vault event, which lasted around 3 hours in very windy and difficult conditions. This was the eventual winner, a German called Silke Spiegelburg. She fought her demons but won out in the end with this winning vault. Being an ex champion Pole vaulter myself (Bristol and South West England and the rest..LOL ...) I appreciated what they were going through mentally coping with the strong windy conditions. It was great to watch and she stayed behind for around an hour just signing little kids autographs. This was refreshing to watch.

A great day out in Gateshead. And, " if ye've never been to Gatesheeed, then awll yeer teems been waysteed..."
