Pollarding
Every other year, the plane trees in our village,
are cut back and pruned……
to maintain their height and shape..
In my photo you can see that some of the team are cutting the branches….
And the other member is feeding the off cuts into a machine to shred the branches into a ‘mulch’ which is then used on other Municipal gardens, as a fertilizer
This process is called ‘Pollarding’
The Two Year Pollarding Programme covers all the plane trees in the town.
The resultant trees look very ‘spiky’ and bare
until Spring arrives , when the leaf cover takes over!!
