Caledonian Railway Coat of Arms
Was on the Glasgow Central Tour today. It takes you into the undercroft of the station. Here is the Coat of Arms of the Caledonian Railway who built the station opening in 1879 with only 8 platforms. Soon afterwards a new platform on the east (platform 9) was added.
In 1901 to 1905 the station was extended with a new bridge over the Clyde and took the total number of platforms to 13, the original 9 being renumbered east to west.
If you ever get the chance, the tour is well worth it. It tells you a lot about social history and the village of Grahamston. The station was built on top of this village.
