The carnage across the street

Snapped like a twig, it and hundreds of trees in and around the city. The freight train of wind and sheets of rain came through right after dinner, bending the trees and taking out the power. Of the almost half a million households without power, an amazing 275, 000 have been restored this morning.

Nerve racking; it made me think of Oklahoma and what that tornado must have been like; walking or crawling out of the debris and seeing everything obliterated instead of walking out your front door and talking with neighbors about how lucky they were that the tree didn't go the other way. The dozens of police and ambulance sirens that followed alluded to the fact that other neighborhoods did far worse.

We made camp coffee this morning, will take a drive later to car charge the cell phones because the internet based land line is dead. We are so spoiled with all our modern conveniences.
