The Other Side of Hope

A sketch of a still from "The Other Side of Hope", directed by Aki Kaurismäki.

I walked the long way back from the supermarket, through the water meadows and under a viaduct. I saw a small plantation of willow trees (osiers) which are harvested for withies (slender shoots suitable for weaving). I took them for unusually tall dogwood trees to begin with on account of their fiery branches.

Listened to: "The Knight's Tale" from The Canterbury Tales. Read about a reinterpretation by Patience Agbabi, "Telling Tales", and found the website of Leonard Greco, who makes neo-Mediaevalist paintings, including one based on the Tale, developed through "free-associative" sketches.
