Mallard
In the afternoon we all went for a walk through Ninesprings, an area in a deep valley on the side of the town which was bought from a local landowner in the 19th C and made into a place to walk for the townspeople. There are many footpaths and streams and ponds with wildfowl and on one side a steep incline of woodland up to the open parkland and farmland. There were several species of duck today including Mallard and Mandarin, a few Cootes finding their way through the weeds, and the ever present seagulls perching on fallen trees over the water.
