Stormwater Drain

This open stormwater drain emerges from under the road opposite Arkadia, flows along the eastern side of Sydney Park then ducks under Euston Rd, emerges again here, turns a bend and joins up with the Alexandra Canal. I wondered if it might once have been a tributary of Shea’s Creek, the original watercourse.

On Google maps it’s an unnamed broken blue line, but a map of Alexandria 1886-1889 shows what looks like a tributary with a boiling down works and wool wash.

The new building on the left is industrial units. It seems likely that they attached the nesting boxes to the she-oaks.
