Ben Macdui

A long walk in the Cairngorms today.

Starting from the ski car park, we headed into Coire an t-Sneachda and up the Goat Track onto the plateau. The cloud descended and made our trudge onto the summit of Ben Macdui a bit grim. After a bite to eat, we turned east and dropped out the cloud to head onto Derry Cairngorm, before heading onto Beinn Mheadhoin. The weather had improved throughout the day.

Afterwards, we dropped into the Loch A'an basin to visit the Shelterstone (and sign the visitors' book). Finally we climbed up the excellent path into Coire Raibert back onto the plateau and up to the summit of Cairngorm itself.

28km, 1850m of ascent, 8hr45mins.
