Window Reflection--Edinburgh
Our first full day in Edinburgh--it was terrific. Spent most of it at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, close to our hotel. The large building's exterior is severely Georgian, as is the entire area. But the extensive interior has been marvelously renovated and updated; impressive throughout. We inquired on leaving and were told that the remake was indeed comprehensive, lasting three years and completed 18 months ago. Everything seemed special, for example a small exhibition on Annie Lennox, the popular singer.
After a brief rest we had barely 45 minutes at the Scottish National Gallery, for older art; too little time, but we'll return--it's also superb.
After supper returning to our hotel we saw this elegant window box with a vivid reflection of the Georgian rooftops across the way (on York Place, cursed by tramway construction at street level, as I mentioned yesterday).
