The Boys and Pinky Promise
Gordon and I headed to Stonehaven for today's weekly catchup. The plan was to cruise the charity shops then head to Nikki's cafe in the Square for our coffee and cake fixes. But disaster struck. First, the only charity shop was a so-called boutique one, way too posh for the likes of us: and worse, - Nikki's doors were locked and clearly staying that way. Not sure why.
Luckily, the sharp-eyed Gordon spotted Pinky Promise, a new to us and not long-opened, I believe, cafe on the other side of the main road. As the rain was about to start again, we were only too willing to give it a go.
Pinky did not let us down. Good coffees and even better cakes. Gordon was a master baker in another life and knows his batten bergs from his carrot cakes and even he expressed himself pleased. For my part I said little, settling for the odd slurp and gurgle of delight. Exceedingly good cakes as the late Dr Kissinger was oft heard to say.
The staff in Pinky's were lovely and they are clearly dog-friendly: two docile, but fierce looking XL Bully lookalikes shared the space with us. To be honest, the bully boys seemed as uncertain about the decor as we were. See the extra. But still highly recommended for a once over if you are passing. Certainly good value.
The beach blip did disappoint, so I flipped it into Black and White. The day was unrelentingly drieche in any case: but luckily not so our mood.
