High Tide
Well, I intended to go to Bridgnorth today for a nice dog walk and see the rising river levels, where the Severn passes through this pretty Shropshire town. I was unable to follow my usual walk for two reasons. One, a silly sign saying 'Footway Closed', and two, a biblical amount of fast flowing water where one would not normally see any water.
My main image and the extra show the extent of the flood, as seen from the elevated position of the bypass, which crosses the normally tranquil river, and the area known as Wellmeadow, a popular route for walkers. Bridgnorth High Town seems as if it is floating in the middle of a lake. In the extra, there should be no water visible from this aspect. Modern houses are less than a hundred metres from the water. I hope for their sake it subsides rather than continues to rise.
I include a link which shows what it looks like from ground level.

I have seen this before and historically it has been a rare occurence but sadly it is becoming more common. Many homes and businesses here, and in Ironbridge, Bewdley, Worcester etc, get flooded on a fairly regular basis. It must be an absolute nighmare.
Hollie had to make do with a couple of miles of pavement pounding as the walkway we normally use was five feet under water.
