La vida de Annie

By Annie

2024. Feliz año nuevo.

We took the dogs to the beach at son Saura for a blast of new year fresh air. The beach was deserted except for a skinny dipper down the far end, which we avoided lest one of the dogs ran off with his clothes. Tried throwing sticks for them to fetch: Luna gamely set off in the right direction after it but appeared to forget what she was doing halfway and trotted back. Minnie2 just watched in disdain. Maxie just enjoyed sniffing rocks and digging in the sand. I decided to do the obligatory message in the sand, but gave up after the first letter of "Feliz año nuevo" as the dogs were so interested in what I was doing that they "helped" by digging up the sand too. This poor offering is a quickly-scrawled and partly-buried inscription of the year, surrounded by pawprints. I hope this doesn't augur badly for the year to come, projects abandoned and coming to naught. I always find the new year quite disappointing, with only a few days left before the cheery decorations come down. We didn't follow the Spanish new year's eve tradition of eating 12 grapes on the strokes of midnight to bring good luck in each month, but only because (a) there were no grapes, and (b) we'd been asleep 2 hours by then. I did however follow the ancient wisdom of not doing any washing or cleaning on Jan 1st for fear of "washing away any good luck" for the year - a very good excuse I thought.
Happy New Year blippers.
