Restoration
A field day in one of the most substantial mangrove areas of Kenya, to look at restoration efforts and hear about community programmes linked with benefits derived from mangroves. It was interesting to be reminded of damage caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which had such far-reaching effects that it caused deaths and damaged coastlines in East Africa. A valuable day out culminating in refreshing coconuts and a group meal in a restaurant built on platforms inside an old-growth mangrove forest.
This party of schoolchildren was also getting a tour of the mangroves.
