Rooftop

My friend Stephen has a gorgeous rooftop area on the top floor of his block. The evening started so sensibly and sedately with beer and crisps and talking with one of his neighbours, a writer who spent part of her childhood living on Saint Helena.

The night took some unplanned drunken turns with the involvement of a Belgian linguist and a guy who works at the Polish embassy who has an extensive stash of expensive vodka at his apartment. Polish people can drink vodka as if it’s water. Other nationalities cannot.

They say spontaneity is good. But they also say it leads to some catastrophic hangovers.
