My journey back home to Bedford from mum's place, where I've rested for the last eight nights necessarily takes me through London St Pancras International, often the venue of angst and travel chaos. I passed the Hatchards bookshop Xmas display a fortnight ago and have seen several blips of it since, though typically from the lower concourse. I hadn't imagined I would actually blip this.
But having had a perfectly smooth journey home, despite almost every other journey through that hub today being catastrophic, I'm rather pleased with the serenity in this. For once I was totally unaware of the unfolding chaos, perhaps it became evident only after I had boarded my train, though I did notice that my service provider was the only one without cancellations. It wasn't until many hours later, back home in Bedford with the radio on that I learned that a flooded railway tunnel in Kent has cancelled all Trans-Manche trains for at least 24 hours and people are stranded in London, Brussels, Amsterdam.
I do feel blessed.
