Insect trapped in amber

This may look like an insect about to get trapped in tree sap which will turn to amber. However, it is the wrong kind of tree and the insect flew away after a minute. Our peach trees have been oozing sap. This happened early in the spring when sap began to flow. It is happening again during a very rainy spell. The substance is like a very soft jelly. When it dries there is practically nothing left of it. The cause may be insect damage although, if that is the case, I should see tiny holes in the bark. An alternate explanation, one that I hope is correct, is that this is a year of heavy sap flow and the trees are simply expelling excess sap.
