Bulbous Buttercup
A busy day co-leading a walk examining the relationship between geology and botany with a specialist from Natural England.
We visited Swaddywell NR first and admired the Tinwell Fault in the quarry, before spending the afternoon at Castor Hanglands, which has a complex geology with areas of Lincolnshire Limestone and clays of the Rutland Formation giving rise to various types of grassland and fen meadow.
As we walked round I spotted these unusually pale flowers of Bulbous Buttercup. Yellow flowers will often produce pale forms, particularly where there are large populations - just part of the natural variation.
