A Christmas rose?

A Hellebore just coming into flower in the garden.  Apparently its common name of Christmas rose is taken from an old legend that it sprouted in the snow from the tears of a young girl who had no gift to give to baby Jesus. (The Gardens Trust notes it as one of the four major poisonous plants mentioned in classical medical texts, along with aconite, hemlock and nightshade.)
