Monochrome sky

Another walk today. Windy with a hint of rain, but we escaped the gale force gusts and downpours that have been occurring in the north of the country and in Scotland. Such a contrast to the weather we enjoyed on our Boxing Day walk. Bumped into Mark, our postman, who told us that he is now in two local running clubs. Given that he runs between each house when he's delivering the post he must be running practically  every day. He's a great bloke - a kind of village guardian looking out for people on his round. I used to love being on the Christmas post in my student days with my own round in Crayford, Kent. The daily postal delivery is one of those great forms of community cohesion and service that we have so easily taken for granted, leading to privatisation and inevitable sacrificing of the common good to profit. The photo is is of the monochrome pattern of the skeletal tree branches against a leaden sky, longing for the new growth that will come, in time, with the Spring. .
