'Otherwise occupied'....

We had a gondola ride today! I managed to negotiate a "reasonable" price, and it was FUN and very informative! How could we be in Venice after all without going in a gondola!

A highlight of the day for me was an accidental stumbling on this art exhibition, tucked away in the garden of a disused building. It was called 'Otherwise Occupied' and is a city made from cardboard boxes and the 'otherwise' is an imaginary parallel space beyond the claims of nationalism. Many visitors had carved messages on boxes and it was a very moving experience. I left my mark there.....

We joined the long but remarkably fast moving queue and climbed the almost vertical stone steps (ugh) to the balcony of the great Basilica di San Marco, one of the world's finest medieval buildings, and the views from the top made it all worth it.

Just a taster of the day, but another one to remember. The holiday is going fast.
