Pipelayer

Midwestern Manufacturing introduced the world's first hydraulically operated sideboom pipelayer attachment in 1953. For over 50 years, these sidebooms have continuously set the highest standards for safety, reliability, ease of operation, and cost-efficiency in the pipeline industry. A counterweight on the near side extends to compensate for the weight of a pipe suspended from the boom on the left.

These devices are typically fitted onto a Caterpiller D5G crawler tractor.

Two of these machines are used to lower sections of a pipeline into a trench. They are also used for pipe handling such as unloading trucks and laying out pieces for welding.

The NPL logo on the pipelayer signifies that the owner is Northern Pipeline, a subsidiary of the Southwest Gas Company.
