All was going swimmingly until the last of 8 round trips. The final trip was delayed owing to a lack of lights in one of the coaches and further delayed by me at Wittersham Road to check a tail lamp.

The Northiam signalman sent 7 bells just after the train left Northiam. That’s the bell code for “stop and examine”

I rang to find out the problem, tail light not lit. This meant diverting the train into the platform and using a red flag to stop the train at my signalbox. A new red tail lamp was fitted and off they went.

That’s it for the year. Lots of happy smiling faces and the last train apart, it was a good day. One more day tomorrow. Then after Christmas it’s the Mince Pie Specials.
