Vancouver Heritage Buildings
Downtown Vancouver is confined to a peninsula and has a finite area. As a consequence, real estate values are some of the highest in the world. When an old, original building is sold, it is often torn down and something much larger and modern is built. There are few heritage buildings remaining. These are three that have survived, and are likely to continue, for a while at least.
L. The Marine Building- once the tallest building in Vancouver, and for decades a landmark on the waterfront, it is now surrounded by much taller and newer buildings.
C. The Canadian Pacific Railway Station- built in 1914, it greeted arrivals by train from all across Canada. Today it greets busy commuters from all parts of the city as the terminus of Skytrain and the Canada Line transit lines.
R. The Vancouver Post Office- with its iconic clock tower, was long ago repurposed, and today along with three other heritage buildings, forms a very upscale shopping mall.
