Celebrating the shortest evening

A bit of fresh air to enjoy another beautiful evening, and actually stay in for the longest night.

I wonder how many generations it took to count the periods of longest and shortest, and give names to them. Then I wonder about the confidence in marking the longest and shortest, trusting the calculations that the sun really would reverse its trend marking darker or lighter.
