My topsy-turvy life

By Rathmandu

On top of the...Spain

One of the reasons for us choosing Tenerife was the fact that it's a volcanic island...and you can go up the volcano, Teide.

So we hired a car and had a bit of a tour around the south -and top- of the island. That started with me looking amazed at actual black volcanic sand in Los Gigantes and then being constantly amazed as we stopped at pretty much every viewpoint on the way up Teide.

It's phenomenal!
And weird!
Jagged rocks everywhere and evidence of lava flows all over the place, it really does seem like another world.
Eventually we made it all the way to the cable car that takes you up to 200m short of the summit...10 minutes before the car up! I thought I was amazed by the volcanic sand and the volcanic plateau but the view from that near to the summit really was spectacular and I have far too many photos of rocks and views.
This panoramic shot has the upper cable car station on the right hand side and is from 3555m up...more than 3 times as high as Snowdon!
