James Watt, Artist

By JamesWatt

Generation to generation

We had a great day today at Greenock!

James Watt, more than 75 years older than the youngest children working with him today, was full of praise for the next generation.

In the morning, youngsters from Arthurlie Family Centre visited with their headteacher and spent time with the artist, and, as he has done, spent time painting near the harbours. They were a great group, full of questions and enthusiasm, and offering such hope for Scotland in the future.

In the afternoon, we were joined by P5, St Joseph's PS who have become very knowledgeable about ships. Hands were up throughout James Watt's talk, and he loved the wideranging questions being thrown at him. The class also did a live radio interview with Inverclyde Radio about its day, very confident and full of answers as well as questions.

Finally, the teacher of P7, St Ninian's PS, who came to the Beacon yesterday arrived at the end of the day with a stunning piece of work which the class completed today. Definitely a future blip!

And we have just seen shots of P5, All Saints PS who visited on Monday. Today they were also outside painting, up on the hills above Greenock. Really keen to see what they produce!

What a job! Privileged.
