Entomology

At Rotary tonight Geoff Howard, Professor emeritus, Hunterian Museum, Glasgow University describes the importance of pins in the study of entomology.

Pins were hand made from Roman times until 1790 when Adam Smith started factory production. Mass production commenced in 1840 making pins affordable and with specific specifications for different purposes.

The study of Entomology led to advances in medicine, particularly control of tropical disease.
