Wigeons & Waves
A walk on the cliffs and shore of Birsay Bay. Strong westerly gales today making for big waves. I was very cautious on the lower cliffs of Marwick Head as they slope toward Birsay Bay, keeping well back and conscious of how the wind can veer suddenly. The wind carried masses of spray even when it wasn't raining, so difficult conditions for photography and spotting birds. Only when I got home did I see that a shot of some twite included snow buntings. Wigeons were sitting on the grassy slopes and a few flew off as I approached, but I am sure they settled back quickly once I moved on.
