Persimmon ‘Tree’
It may be puny and it’s all growing in one direction, but it certainly produces persimmons! I’ve always loved persimmon trees that are full of fruit even when all the leaves have dropped off. This is a scrawny version but we can’t fault it for its production. We have picked and eaten or given away dozens more.
We were all asking Gail what she gave Bob for breakfast this morning as he came dancing into Trail House this morning. The conversation at the girls’ end of the table revolved around what ploys we use to get our husbands out from underfoot so we can get something done! We will all be together again at our house tomorrow evening for a pot luck/holiday celebration.
One of our contributions for the dinner tomorrow will be a salad with persimmons. Fuyu persimmons stay slightly crisp, unlike the mushy kind.
After coffee I decided we couldn’t put it off any longer. We went to Montgomery Village, our local shopping center, to buy the traditional Christmas socks for the boys and look around. The place was beginning to look a bit dated and run down when it was purchased by a Boston developer during Covid lockdown. They let attrition virtually empty the place of all but the most stalwart tenants and then proceeded to paint repair and spruce everything up. They are still working on it and a majority of the spaces are empty but it may be quite nice once they finish. I’m worried that they will bring in a lot of chain stores and it will lose its local flavor, but we’ll see.
I can’t help but notice that when we moved here, we felt that we were quite cutting edge with our white house with a black door. Now every new house, hotel, apartment complex and Montgomery Village itself is being painted white with black accents.
There must be a place I don’t know about where the style influencers post the memos
about these things.
We didn’t buy much but I did find some Christmas crackers for our dinner tomorrow.
Gail is English so she will know what to do with them even if nobody else does. And everybody will get a kick out of them.
