Soggy start to the weekend and Ferret Drama

D#1 is visiting for a few days, so, between work calls, she joined The Mintster and me for a damp tramp along the cycle track at Croftamie.

Earlier, this morning, I was expecting the chimney sweep both here and at the cottage next door (which P owns and rents out) whose occupants are away on holiday. I got a shock when I went to unlock the door in advance of the sweep's arrival, as requested by P, and found the couple's pet ferret at my feet in the hallway, intent on escaping out the front door!

Of course I couldn't leave the ferret running loose in case he escaped when the sweep went in, but there was no cage to shut him into - the ferret, not the sweep. I got him to follow me into the bathroom, from which I myself eventually managed to escape, shutting the ferret in there. Phew!

Back home I texted P to tell her what had happened and she was as surprised as me to hear the ferret had been left to run loose, but thanked me for dealing with the situation. Five minutes later she phoned in a panic to ask if I'd noticed if the loo seat was up or down, because she was worried that the ferret might jump up on the seat, fall in and drown!!!

I hadn't even looked at the toilet, so back I went, squeezed into the bathroom without letting Ferret out, clocked that the loo seat was indeed down, then spent five minutes trying to escape again!!! No matter how far I tried to move him away with my foot, the wee blighter was too quick and eventually - don't tell the RSPCA please! - I picked him up, not knowing if I was going to be bitten, then threw him to the other end of the bathroom and made my escape.

And that was my first ever experience of meeting a ferret. I didn't even have the gumption to take a blip of him!

I reckon I deserve my Cuba Libre tonight. I hope your weekend is drama-free, blipmates ;-)
