Baden Powell
A few years ago, a local sculptor offered to carve a statue for the newly opened park in the town. The Town Council accepted his offer and he got to work
He had his workshop on our usual road with our bicycles and we could see how his work was progressing little by little. But the large marble figure he was carving was almost hidden behind a wall and I couldn't guess exactly what he was doing. I could only see a huge hat on the other side of the wall. I immediately linked this hat to the figure of the founder of the Scout Movement.
He finally discovered his artwork the day the statue was placed at the entrance to the park.
Here you can see it. It is supposed to be a tribute to the people of this town who worked as farmers and gatherers in the countryside. That is why he holds a sheaf of wheat in his left hand and a sickle in his right.
But.... The fact is that for me he is Baden Powell!
