On the Town

A day in town so first off, after a walk along the harbour side, a call in at the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum to see what’s going down. Same agenda as back home - an exhibition in response to the gender and indigenous gaps in the collection. And some of it was ok, said the old bloke. Though is it really true that there has been a repression of gender fluidity in Sámi society as a result of Norwegian colonialization and christianisation? Aye, exactly.
Then on to the Perspektivet Museum to see photos of the Laestadian community - a personal faith and frugal lifestyle religion. Not unlike the old CofS then. And an exhibition of the life of Sara Fabricius/Cora Sandel, a local author.
OK, enough of that, time for a beer. And revitalised, a walk to the Ølhallen which is a brewery outlet for the Mack brewery as well as about forty other breweries judging by the number of taps. And there, dear reader, I fell in with thieves. Australian gentlemen who had been imbibing since lunchtime and who, with great conviviality demanded I join their table. Well, what could I say, it was our last evening after all.
