Day #7 Grandma

Photographed through a bus window, this family appeared to be waiting for a bus.  Grandma was responding not to me, but to something that transpired between the family.   This is in the city of Manizales, the capitol of the coffee district.

Today we left the quiet town of Solento and traveled up the mountains to Manizales where we are staying tonight.  At one time, there was a cable car, the longest in the world, that began here and went all the way to the Pacific Ocean.  It was transporting product, but people began hitching rides and missing drop points, only to be severely injured or killed.  Sometime in the 1930s, it ceased operation, the towers were dismantled and the now there is one remaining tower, a landmark, and the only wooden one, sitting here in the city.

On our way today, we visited an orchid farm, enjoyed seeing beautiful flowers, native to the area, as well as many birds, and other plants.  We enjoyed the best lunch of the trip so far with especially wonderful soup.  One of the extras is my attempt to capture a humming bird in action.  Also, a walker, a church organist/singer, and one of the main streets in the city, here tonight.
