An 80,000 word PhD thesis rather than a 2,000 word essay, but you get the idea!

Cutting up every paragraph of a chapter, summarising what each one says, and then having a good old reshuffle is such an incredibly helpful process. It’s always demoralising when I discover there’s thousands of words which are superfluous, but I know that it also means the work is better for their removal.
