Mother Lakeland covenants herself to Satan
A little drawing for an idea I'm working on for some prints in the style of Seventeenth Century woodcuts, based on the testimony of Mother Lakeland, the only convicted witch/victim of the East Anglian witchfinding campaign of the 1640s to be burned at the stake. Unfortunately I remembered as I was taking this picture that one of the things that attracted me to this scene in the first place was the way in which Mary Lakeland described the devil piercing her hand with his claw to draw the blood to sign the covenant. I don't know where I got the slightly Black Sabbath dagger from - I'll have to make some corrections....
